Community Services / Fellowship and Awareness
Health Fair
Each spring, we have an annual health fair and invite agencies from the surrounding area to participate. We have many different demonstrations
that are offered including health screenings (vision, dental, bone density/scoliosis, blood pressure, etc.) as well as education on gun safety,
health insurance for children (KCHIP), drug and alcohol prevention, nutritional information, and a visit from our local fire department and
rescue squad. These are all provided at no cost. On average we have 200 people in attendance.
Women's Group
A support/craft group of ladies age 20 to 60 meets once each week to provide fellowship and encouragement. Some of these ladies have young
children that they bring with them to the group. Some have a stressful home situation and need the companionship of the group. The older
ladies are very encouraging to these young girls and the conversations they have are very empowering. The ladies share ways to become better
shoppers, and how to better spend and save money at the grocery store.
Once each month Life Skill classes are offered in addition to the Women's Group meeting. These workshops are in nutrition, job skills,
dressing for success, cooking, and budgeting. The Life Skills are taught from outside sources such as the Extension Office and local resource
center. Community members who participate in the food pantry and other services offered at Henderson Settlement are invited. We have a good
time and good fellowship. A bible study is among the other groups we look to offer to our families on a weekly basis in the near future.
